Camping 2010 Trip!!!

37

I like camping….so….Who’s up for another motorcycle camping trip this summer? A couple of us have picked out the dates of June 19th or June 16th as good dates, about a month away. These work for anyone to take a back-road trip out to the Harrisburgh area and camp for a night? I can make the reservations based on the amount of people interested

    June 16th?

  2. Sam Says:

Hey man, how would you feel about taking an 18 year old? It’s cool if that wouldn’t fly with you or your buddies, I understand I’m younger.

  3. Devyn Says:

19th is good for me — gotta be a weekend, slave to the man during the week.

    Sam, what ya riding?

  4. mick Says:

i meant the 19th or the 26th of June. Ride up Saturday, camp, ride back Sunday.

If we go near Harrisburg, the Troegs beer brewery is out there and would be a cool stop.

  5. Nick Says:

Appalachian Brewing Company is a good place to hit too, and its like a mile away from Troegs. I will be out of town the 19th, but should be able to do the 26th. Where are you thinking of camping? If you need any info, I grew up in Harrisburg, and know tons of good roads to get there.

  6. chris Says:

i gotta rub my wifes feet for like a week or sumthin to get the ok, but i’m willing and able whenever you guys decide.

  7. scott Says:

I’ll be away on the 19th, but could do the 26th.

  8. Sam Says:

Hey Devyn, I’ll either be on my CB 500, if I get it running, or my uncle’s Triumph Thruxton. My Honda needs a lot of work, but it’s not in bad shape for a 500 craigslist find. Just got the repair manual yesterday.

  9. ed Says:

    @sam -
if you’re 18, you can come with us, it’s all good… but you have to drink a whole bottle of 10-high whiskey to prove you’re not a pussy…

  10. Sam Says:

    @ed
I’m from Kentucky man, we throw that shit down. Absinthe shots will prove who’s a pussy.

  11. ed Says:

    @sam
    that was a good answer…
    hope you make it out.

  12. mick Says:

looks like June 26th is a better date for everyone. ed, adam, ricky, lippot, max, aaron, dana, andrew??

Nick, i was looking at a couple state parks around Harrisburgh area, but didn’t settle on any. You got any suggestions?

  13. ed Says:

yep, june 26th weekend works for me.
    -ed

  14. Nick Says:

Kings Campground is where we used to camp to party in high school. It sits just outside Middletown, and is right along the river. It is not a state park so they dont care about alchol, and it’s close to Harrisburg. Its a good place to stay if you wanted to ride up through Lancaster and amish country. Swatara Park is above Harrisburg, and closer to Ft. Indiantown Gap, thats a pretty cool area (more wilderness) and you could cruse through Reading and Hershey. I will look into a few more spots too…

  15. andrew Says:

i never know where i’ll be that far in advance, but if I’m in the country i’m down!

  16. andrew Says:

and come on mick, no photo to go with the post?

  17. Devyn Says:

Sign me up for the 26th.

  18. admin Says:

    I’m down for the 26th.

I added the photo which Mick took on our fall camping trip. Bikes were covered in frost when we woke up. It’ll be nice to camp in warm weather this time.

  19. andrew Says:

now thats what i’m talking about! i’ll mark the 26th on my Calendar and hope nothing comes up!

  22. Aaron Says:

Im in but it isnt up to me….. the orange monster decides for me. if shes running ill be there. I got a few friends out that way that would love to meet up and camp out.. ( james got a bike) as for the absinthe leave that fag shit at home.. we drink whiskey. being from Kentucky you should know that, I dont care how young you are. Adam, bring some shine.

  23. scott Says:

hahahaha….yeah, I thought absinthe was something that only Germans and Norwegians drank!

  24. Sam Says:

    @ Aaron
Don’t say fag, it’s really gay. And by the way, Kentucky is known for bourbon. But whatever, I’m new to this, so bring whiskey.

  25. Aaron Says:

bourbon is a type of whiskey. Oh..that is what fag meant. I wanted you to know that I felt absinthe was “gay,” so that worked out perfect.

Anyway.. whiskey camping trip on motorcycles. what could go wrong.

  26. admin Says:

Sam, do you live in Philly? Come out for the ride sometime

So we’ve settled on the weekend of June 26th. We’ll do another post soon to get a count of everyone so we know how many tent sites to reserve.

    -Adam

  27. ed Says:

yea, sam… where do you live at?

and just for reference, aaron is a homo-phobe. mainly because he’s a closet homo.
    haha

  28. Sam Says:

I live in Roxborough with my dad, and I work downtown at Via Bicycle. I actually only used to be into bicycles, but my 18th birthday sparked an interest in motorcycles in me pretty fast. Roxborough’s a good spot for riding motorcycles and bikes since it’s close to Kelly drive and Lincoln drive, and the Wissihickon is sweet for mountain biking (it could use some dirt jumps), but there are very few spots for riding street, so I have to go to FDR for that, which is why working downtown is nice.

  29. Fred Says:

So is the 26th decided? I was hoping it would be the 19th….i can’t miss my baby’s first birthday. oh well. next time, right?

  30. scott Says:

    @ Sam

CB 500 is a great bike…..welcome to the world of motorcycling! Have you done any modifications yet? Clubman bars, solo seat?

  31. Sam Says:

Yeah, I really like it. I will mostly be investing in it’s repair first, then I’ll throw some upgrades on there. I am definitely getting some clubman bars though, after viewing this site for a few months, I don’t think I could stay away from a cafe racer build anyway.

  32. scott Says:

    @ Sam

Caff Racers are the only way to go! ;-)

  33. Sam Says:

Yeah I’m dying to get it up and running. I’m thinking about getting my brother in law to chrome the tank, but I might just raw it out. Only major shit in my way right now is that the two right side exhaust pipes are scratched as shit and a little dented, and I have to chrome polish them all the time so that rust doesn’t eat away at it. Where should I be looking for a replacement? Aslo, I still have the original tires on it, and they must have been kept near fertilizer or something, the sidewalls are getting a little nasty. Any suggestions for replacements?

  34. scott Says:

    @ Sam

Don’t have any experience with these vendors, but they look reputable.

There’s A&J Cycle Salvage down near the airport.

And of course, there’s always eBay!

  35. admin Says:

    Hey Sam

Send me a picture of the bike for a post, I’m interested to see it.

As for the dents and minor stuff, don’t sweat it. Get it mechanically sound before that stuff. There’s always time later to polish. New rubber is a must though. Myself and a bunch others run the Avon Roadriders cause they’re a good price and high quality.

Tires express carries them with free shipping.

Here’s the link for Pa State Parks….
    http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/index.aspx

Nick…i looked at the King’s Campground. Is it a religious campground? I’d be down for it if it’s cool to camp there. $30 a night.

Also looks as if Swtatra state park doesn’t offer camping yet. Gifford Pinnocht, below Harrisburg looks allright.

@sam…yeah i’ve ridden with vinny for a couple years now. shredder.
