Honda CX or GL ???

11

So, I have two Honda CB’s. A twin and a four.

I want my next cycle to be either a:
- 78 Honda CX500 (80˚ V-twin)
- 76 Honda GL1000 (horizontally opposing cylinders)

I think It’d be cool to work on a different kind of engine. I’m brand loyal to Honda.

Which do you guys think would be cooler? Comment and let me know.

- CX500

- GL1000

Both those pics are random pics I found, of how good they both can look, because in stock form, they’re gross.

I am a huge fan of thg GL 1000, but it is quite a large bike. The cx has a awesome looking motor and is a great runner. Both bikes are sick, good luck with whichever you choose.

my vote goes for the CX. i almost picked one up once because i kinda liked the idea of a poor man’s moto-guzzi. have seen some pretty cool cafe’d out GL’s as well though. hard to go wrong with either. got a thing for shaft drive?

Go with the gl1000, the cx500 looks too much like the bike you already have.

my buddy has a stock 79 cx he just picked up. no problems really besides a leaky coolant hose and a stuck master cylinder. also came with a spare motor. it’s his first bike so he just wants to ride it for a bit and then get rid of it for a bike that is less of a project. if you are interested i can talk to him. -kevin

I dig both bikes. The CX would be good to learn how to work on a water cooled bike and the GL would be awesome for serious road trips.

    I vote for the CX.

The Goldwing looks hard as fuck. GL=don’t mess with this dude. But, if this is for New Zealand, that CX looks like the perfect racer. Get the GL when you float back to ‘Merica and decide to travel the country.

I’m split too, as both bikes can be made in to something pretty cool. I agree with Devyn though…..if it’s for New Zealand, get the CX and the GL when you return!

I’ve found a fairing and saddle bags for a 1981 Honda Interstate GL500 but I own a 1980 CX500 – is there any hope of getting these two to live in happiness with each other?
