Thought I’d recap for anybody new checking out this site.
Below are the details… Also weather info shit:
Meet every Thursday at the BP gas station at 25th and Poplar at 8pm.
We hang out in the gas station and shoot the shit until about 8:30ish, see who shows up, then we’ll do some sort of a ride around Fairmount park, or out to Conshohocken and back. If it’s really nice outside maybe we’ll do something longer. Just depends I guess.
After the ride we go check out one of the bars in the city, shoot the shit there, drink beers. Normally somewhere in northern liberties. Open to suggestions.
As far as weather is concerned, we’ll be doing the rides as long as it’s not shitty out.
If it’s 45˚ or less and shitty shitty cold I’m not going. Fuck that.
But if it’s a warm 45˚ – 100ish˚ … We’ll be there.
And I hate saying this shit, but some people are retards…
If you’re gonna come do a ride with us, ride staggered, and don’t pass the person in front of you. Don’t ride like a dick.
If someone’s cycle breaks down, only 1 person stops with the person who broke down, and then someone else come up, tell whoever is leading, and the group will stop.
Oh… and if you’re not on a vintage bike, it’s all good. I won’t make fun of your bike that much… Ride what ya got. Just wanna have a good time ya know.

I’m sure part of this is directed at myself or a few others I can think of so here are my 2 cents.
I agree to an extent with the passing comment. I definitely pass people who are going slow/breaking the group up or if I’m in the back of the group at the start for whatever reason. Most of the people that go on the rides scare the shit out of me (just being honest), the scariest of those people are usually at the back and a few tend to flock towards the front of the group at the beginning, which is the most retarded shit ever. The people who are sketchy riders & who are breaking the group up are going to get passed by me and by a few other people, I personally think everyone should do this who feels comfortable doing so. There’s no reason to ride behind/near someone who makes you uncomfortable. I’ve been behind a handful of people who are crossing double yellows into traffic or just riding poorly. These people should be in the back of the group, bottom line. I also tend to pass people on that left hand sweeper right before the bridge. That’s one of the most fun turns that can be taken waaaaaay faster then most people take it. It’s also one of the only turns that you don’t have to worry about some random car coming in the other direction & crossing into your lane. There’s usually only a few of the guys ahead of me if this happens, its usually the 2 who are leading then maybe another 2 people. I am pretty confident that none of those people are going to decide to crash into me & those people should be confident that I won’t do the same. No one is being hurt and safety is obviously #1.
People, for the most part, aren’t really good at stopping to help someone who crashes or breaks down. I remember when one of the last incidents happened at the circle. Some dude ran off the road & put his bike down, the majority of the group kept going & weren’t seen until we ended up at whatever bar we stopped at that night, real nice. Joe crowe & myself stopped to help the dude pick up his bike and make sure nothing was wrong with it, etc. A few others stayed with us while the rest of the group took off without looking back. Also, some people bikes just aren’t fast enough to catch up with the front of the group if they already have a decent lead on them. All that being said, the 1 person stopping rule is pretty sketchy if you ask me.
We should probably try doing the 2 separate rides idea once it starts getting nicer out, again. Both groups will be smaller and there well be less people to worry about/keep track of which is always a plus. On top of that the groups will be going 2 different speeds, or possibly routes, you choose whatever one you’re comfortable with. It just doesn’t do it for some people to poke behing older bikes going 40-60 miles an hour in 1st or 2nd gear, especially on the longer rides. Not saying there’s anything wrong with riding like that/at those speeds at all, that’s totally fine. This is just my opinion that I know a handful of other guys share. Even if it’s not the speed or whatever, maybe it’s the length of the ride that doesn’t agree with you. People would have the option of going on whichever ride lasts longer. People will have more options which is always nice. Just throwing ideas out there.

Ed, I owe you breakfast. Hit me up.

I appreciate how many people made it out regularly or occassionally for the rides this past year. Always a fun crew.
The winter time make it tough to do a safe ride with everyone. Once the salt starts being put down in Fairmount it gets sketchy. I’m looking forward to getting things going again this spring with some new routes and events.

Ed didn’t mention that he tells me what the route is going to be, and I ride the whole thing backwards. somewhere in the middle we meet up – so be on the lookout – for the sickest vintage HIGH FIVES you have ever experienced in your life. no joke, they can hear that shit in Cali.
We have yet to get a sport bike ‘atomic high fiver’, so you guys will have to sit this one out.
There is also Trike Tuesday (3rd day of the week son), where all of us trike owners get together and try not to flip over.
don’t worry, vintage and sports trikes* are allowed.
We also ride 3 across, which tends to create some iffy situations, so please make sure you are a die-hard motortriclist.
This should be a good year for group riding. Maybe this year we will FINALLY see some of my proposed rides come to fruition – dizzy drag racing, the joust (got this one from a high five mishap), the leash (been saving old motorcycle chains for this), pie fight, flat tire endurance and the four-wheel, three-legged race.
cheers all and happy 2012!

As far as I can tell it’s not just a “vintage” ride. Vintage to me, when it comes to motorcycles, means bikes from the 60′s & 70′s, and only a handful of people have bikes from that time period. The rest of the people come to just ride whatever they have. I thought that’s why kelly or west river drive were thrown in at the end of the rides, or it used to be anyway. So people could really open it up, no matter what bike you have, and sort of have a little race to the art museum. That’s the most fun part of the ride for guys with more modern/faster bikes. When I first started coming out with my 71 cb350 all of the guys used to slam it & take off down west river. What happened guys? I remember seeing everyone chin on the tank pushing their bike to the limit. That’s when the rides used to be the most fun and that’s the direction the rides should lean towards once the weather starts getting nicer. This is all my opinion of course.
People have tried to start other rides but apparently they ran into some complications which involved other cott riders. If a new ride ever gets started you’re more than welcome to come. Hopefully it’s on a different day of the week so people can get out twice a week if they’re up to it.

Also, whatever happened to the greenline sunday morning meetups? You should do them again this spring/summer.

Hi guys, I saw your blog and I liked what you do and the way you ride… I though it was a good idea putting a post on my blog on you mates… Hope you won’t mind… This is just in case someone from Italy (for instance) would decide to hang around in Philly on two wheels… You never know… It could be me one day! All the best!
