I finally got the chance to take some photos of my last paint job. I choose from a vintage palette of Ford Motor Co. colors to give this bike the classic treatment. The owner was going for the traditional checkered/rocker look and I aimed not to go overboard with a mess of misplaced checkers, rather clean and simple.

This included a pair of handpainted Honda wings.

…and a matching helmet.

Well guys, we’ve had all winter to get something done, except for Ed who gets to enjoy summer back to back to back. The warm weather signals us to make those final adjustments and go for a test ride.

Stopped by Brian’s house Saturday for some cold beers and a lesson on the hybrid tacos of Southern Texas. Brian was dusting off the ol’ 63 Pan and rewiring the brake switch. Needless to say, we wrapped up there, bought a case of Genesse and ate tacos for dinner.

After a day of piecing the 500/4 motor together, a few of us arrived just in time to watch Jason McElroy fuel up his freshly built BSA and make a couple dozen flybys.

When Erik Omland’s not busting up hipster fights at the Barbary, he’s wrenching right next door to Jason’s shop. He’s been working on this local Tiger110 that’s in beautiful condition.

End of the weekend and I have a near finished motor and freshly painted helmet. Starting ‘er up tonight.

As much as I fucking hate Winter, if it didn’t keep me off the bike as much as it did, I’d never get any work done.

Since the weather in Philly is shit, I thought you guys might like to see what it’s like to ride a cycle around sunny New Zealand. It was a solid 75˚ yesterday.

This is my first time attempting on board filming, so if the quality sucks, deal with it.

This first vid is me cruising around Auckland city.

The second vid is me cruising around some back-roads in Auckland. You can’t really tell in the vid, but the hill and turns are pretty intense.

Both vids don’t really do it justice. It seems like I’m going super slow, when I’m actually going pretty fast. I dunno… weird.

The Biltwell Hustler Helmet (DOT) is fairly new to the market and as I was looking for an inexpensive (DOT-approved) silver open face helmet, a titanium Hustler found a spot on the shelf in my garage. They are currently selling three colours……flat titanium, which is like a medium silver and flat black (both shown below). They also have a flat copper colour, which looks like burnt orange. I haven’t worn this helmet on a ride yet, but it feels pretty much like my Fulmer V2, although they’re sized differently. My Fulmer is a LARGE, while the Biltwell is a MEDIUM.

I paid $99, so it’s comparable in price to the Fulmer as well. I bought mine from Low Brow Customs, but you can purchase directly from Biltwell Inc. and probably any other bike shop selling that brand. Lowbrow Customs has a fairly informative FAQ about the Hustler including weight & size comparisons with the Biltwell Novelty, Bell 500 and Fulmer V2 helmets, which helped in deciding what size I needed. The url is listed below.
