Im not running a stock rear or front fender so the clearance I can account for.

Jay – thanks. I dig that tire but actually like another one of the Duro tires. I hadn’t heard of them before so thanks for mentioning them.

Seem to have look fairly similar to the Firestones. I wouldn’t necessarily run these things on a high-performance bike, but I’m sure they’re decent enough for a vintage ride.

I can also give you my AMA number for another 10% off.

I am familiar with this tire and it is certainly adequate (also made by Cheng Shin). The previous owner had put one size bigger on the rear and it was bottoming out all over the place. I thought I was just too heavy for the little bike but once I replaced the rear with the proper one for the bike it never bottomed out again, even with a passenger. I know you are going to be modifying a lot, so this may not be a problem for you, but FYI the stock size for your bike is 3.00-18 front and 3.50-18 rear.

I believe the front brace ties the bottom fork tubes together so they telescope in unison. Without the front braced, you could go around a hard turn hit a bump and have the inside tube bend and stick while the other is trying to extend. It sounds problematic for front end alignment.

hey bob

it’s ~4.25 between the forks without a brace. I plan to run the front without a fork brace or fender. I don’t see what benefit a brace provides seeing how the oem fender would have provided that function and that thing is flimsy at best. I’ve read that it’s needed but never an explaination into why. Any insight?

Can always make/buy a custom one but I’d be weary of riding without one.
