Materials needed: Epoxy Resin, Fiberglass resin, Fiberglass cloth, Sandpaper in varying grits, Paint and Primer, Painters tape, Aluminum tape or Tin foil (The tape is better and more expensive. Don’t let the Jankeys see it, or they’ll scrap it!), Drop cloth, and Floor wax, Cardboard, and Something to create the overall shape of your tail. i.e. shapeable foam, clay, the rear section of a gas tank, an old KZ tail, a salad bowl, or a mailbox.

Here is the site I used to get a better understanding of what is involved.  It has pictures and step by steps to build yourself a killer custom chopper seat pan.  http://www.jeffreyphipps.com/seat_pans.htm

Do the glassing neatly, in that I mean, no bumps or air bubbles.  This will make your sanding and filling time later less annoying.

For the true grit hicksters

Aaron and I had spent his day off tooling on “the motorcycle that will never run.” We got it…well…, sounding better? Maybe, but we did get gas all over us. It was nice to see him talking like a real Ohio’an, as well as Erin. man, she’s funny!

Rode rt7 to the country music highway to blast it to Asheville. I was quickly greeted by rain, suited up, and rode hard. In and out of rain all day and it was fukn collllllllllddd.

40 miles from Ashville I got some sun. Unsuited and went to Asheville pizza and brewery. Sweet spot, met some townies with the word on the street and booked a bunk at the sweet peas hostel. They have a fukn brewery! What are the chances?!

Talk to you soon.

Solo flight to Tail of the Dragon and Asheville NC https://www.chinonthetank.com/2010/09/solo-flight-to-tail-of-the-dragon-and-asheville-nc/ https://www.chinonthetank.com/2010/09/solo-flight-to-tail-of-the-dragon-and-asheville-nc/#comments Thu, 30 Sep 2010 23:36:58 +0000 http://www.chinonthetank.com/?p=2766 Its on Saturday morning! I will be back when the spirits are gone.

I have been working in the shop getting the bike together for the past week. I made a windscreen to keep the bugs out of my teeth when i’m grinning down the the dragon.

I used an old helmet visor from the 70s and some aluminum stock from ACE hardware.
I also built panniers out of vintage Italian military bags and mounted a 3/8 aluminum rod from the rear foot rest mount to the fender to keep the bags out of the wheels and shocks.

Here’s a look at the bagger.

While I was at it I made a belt buckle out of a thrashed generator cover from a 354.

He is still fine tuning the carbs to adjust for the pod filters. We’ll have a run down of what he did to it once it’s dialed in.

T-shirt preview that Devyn has been working on…
