It was a solid 75˚ yesterday.

This is my first time attempting on board filming, so if the quality sucks, deal with it.

This first vid is me cruising around Auckland city.

The second vid is me cruising around some back-roads in Auckland. You can’t really tell in the vid, but the hill and turns are pretty intense.

Both vids don’t really do it justice. It seems like I’m going super slow, when I’m actually going pretty fast. I dunno… weird.

cbr250r – carbs https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-carbs/ https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-carbs/#comments Sat, 15 Jan 2011 06:59:11 +0000 http://www.chinonthetank.com/?p=3694 Did the carbs on my 1987 cbr250r today. Way more headache than anything Honda from the 70’s.

1) Get all the plastic shit off

2) Get the carbs out. Man that shit looks different, Never seen carbs under the tank before.

3) New OEM air filter. That old one was seriously black as shit.

4) In-line fuel filter had a ton of rust in it. Fuck… So, I took the tank and washed it out with Muriatic Acid. That was a whole job in itself. Then I cleaned the petcock. Tank should be good now. New in-line fuel filter just in case.

5) Get those fuckers dialed in. Basically the exact same as my cb650 carbs… just a little different (and CV slide, not Mechanical slide).

6) All back together now. Took me about 12 hours total including cleaning the tank. Shit.

So,  when I got it all back together, at first, it was running a bit “boggy” on the main jet, or 3/4 to full throttle. I dunno what the issue is / was. I’m anal about doing carbs so I’m positive everything is together correctly. I thought maybe there was a little water left in the tank when I topped it off with fuel, so I bought some “gas treatment”, and increased the octane. After an hour of riding it, Its all good now, running solid and smooth. Revs to 18 grand furiously. Maybe it was a little water left in my tank, and thats all it was? Not 100% sure.

Anyway, what a pain in the ass doing carbs on a fuckin crotch-rocket. I miss my 70’s Hondas back in Philly. I’m flushing the coolant tomorrow. That “should” be a quick job. And don’t even get me started on changing the spark plugs… I had to drop the radiator to do them. Shit.

cbr250r will not get knocked over anymore https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-will-not-get-knocked-over-anymore/ https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-will-not-get-knocked-over-anymore/#comments Sun, 09 Jan 2011 08:19:02 +0000 http://www.chinonthetank.com/?p=3663 So… after my cycle got knocked over the other night by some unknown fuck-face, I’ve been thinking about what to do with it. Two options:
– Make it a custom street fighter / cafe hybrid
– Keep it all original and OEM stock condition and refurbish it

Regardless of which route I decide to go… I’ll talk more about it later. I can’t risk it getting knocked over again. Enough little shit got bent and broken already.

This is my porch to the right side.

This is my newly made ramp so I can bring the cycle on the porch and it’ll sit behind the trees.

Adam once asked me if I knew how to use a hammer… what a dick. That’s some solid carpentry right there buddy. Ramp is solid as shit.

Now, every night, it’ll sit tucked away on the porch, behind the trees, so no one can fuck with it. I wish I had made this a week ago.

cbr250r – overview https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-overview/ https://www.chinonthetank.com/2011/01/cbr250r-overview/#comments Sat, 01 Jan 2011 11:29:20 +0000 http://www.chinonthetank.com/?p=3616

Although 70’s Honda’s are my favorite cycles, I’m having an absolute blast riding around NZ on my new 1987 cbr250r. I wanted to give you guys a breakdown of what the cycle is like…

  • It’s pretty ugly, but at the same time, I kinda like the way it looks.
  • Wether you love it or hate it, the cycle is an absolute blast to ride. I’m really enjoying exploring NZ with Erin, on the cycle.
  • Legally, you don’t need to have vehicle insurance in NZ. So, fuck it, I’m not gonna insure the cycle. It’s not worth anything anyway. Erin insured her new car (2002 Civic), and it’s like $300 a year for full coverage. ha, that’s so fuckin cheap.
  • The one I bought is pretty close to mint original condition. It’s almost gonna be a sin to rip it apart.
  • It’s light as shit. Prolly weighs similar to a 70’s cb200… but it has 45hp and 6 small gears!
  • The bike has no torque at all. I’ll guess and say it has 5ft-lbs at 18K rpm.
  • It would easily smoke my cb450 in a race. It’s pretty fuckin fast. I’ll guess and say it’s as fast as a 70’s cb550 supersport.
  • The bike won’t go anywhere under 10K rpm.
  • The front brake works so well, I almost flipped over the bars the first time I hit the brakes.
  • It’s super nimble. I would love to roast Fairmount park on it.
  • The bike is physically proportioned well. It’s small, but It’s not skinny like a Ninja 250. This cbr250r reminds me of the size of my cb450. It’s kinda wider, so it looks good.
  • Runs really really good. Even though it prolly doesn’t need it, I’m gonna give it a full tune-up next week.
  • I waxed it today. I kinda like the 80’s full-fairing in a weird retarded way.
  • I put ODI mushroom grips on it today. Now it’s officially my cycle.
  • The engine screams like it’s gonna explode at 18K rpm. It’s a loud, wild sounding bike. No exhaust noise. The loudness of the bike is from the engine only, not the exhaust.
  • I’m determined to bring this cycle back to the US when I return in a couple years. It’s fun as shit.
