Adam and I did this trip early Sept 2010. This doesn’t account for any of the backroads we took. But it gives an overall idea of the locations we hit.

Philly to Denver – Kansas Larry

On our way back to Philly from Denver, we were coming across the top of Kansas and the skies started to look crazy. We stopped at a gas station and heard there was a tornado coming.

An older gentleman approached us to talk about the cycles, and told us continuing into the storm was a bad idea. He said he’d take us in for the night. We took him up on it.

– This is an old pic of Larry racing his 70’s Kawasaki H2. Also raced BSA dirt-trackers.

– Larry and his dog.

– He let us keep our cycles in the garage during the storm.

– He showed us his old cycles that he used to race.

– Restored BSA racing dirt-tracker (no brakes if I remember correctly!)

– His new race bike. Ducati 999.

– Project car. Old corvette fitted with a new corvette engine. He also has a 3rd generation Mazda RX7 twin turbo that he let me and Adam test drive.

People west of Philadelphia are overly nice. Him and his wife fed us dinner and breakfast. Can’t say thanks enough!

– trip is over
– adam and I made it back to Philly in one piece
– cycles are intact and still running solid
– they def need a full tune-up and cleaning
– we racked up somewhere between 4500-5000 total miles
– neither of our mileage counters work… can only estimate
– we had numerous roadside breakdowns, and fixes
– proves you don’t need a new or big sized cycle to go across country
– people in Philly are shitty… people out west are nice and friendly
– not a single run in with cops
– no crashes
– a chain break almost ended our trip on saturday 60 miles from home
– fortunately dude up the street came to help us, he had two 70’s cb550’s
– he gave me one of his chains, and we were back on the road, nice guy
– adam and I didn’t kill each other
– we agreed next trip is gonna be on stripped down, cafe’d, 70’s goldwings!
– expect a big-ass image gallery up, once I get my film developed

Eating breakfast this morning in Marysville Ohio. We plan to make it into Pittsburgh today.
Cycles are still running great.
Avoided a tornado in Kansas because of a awesome couple that took us in and fed us. He used to race an H2 back in the day. Also raced BSA dirt trackers. Huge thanks to Larry and his wife.
Renegade camping has been fun. Ed is afraid of spiders like a girl. Lame.
Ate dinner at Catfish Jones in Urbana Ohio and the owner put us up for the night too. Thanks to Chuck and Laura for that.
Should be back in Philly sometime Sunday!

We just did a long ass ride, up and down, all through the Rockies. The turns are insane. Now we’re drinking some cold local beers and eating lunch. Psyched.

fyi – our cycles are running weird and dirt slow at 6 thousand feet up

– thurs night we r in Pratt KS

– last night we went to a tit bar in Springfield MO
– no drinking and no nudity, WTF
– still had good time there
– got a lap dance off a broad who looks like she had a kid
– we r finally out of rain
– used our rain suits all day today
– sunny next few days, psyched
– tried renegade camping tonight but didn’t work out
– at shitty motel tonight
– cycles are running good now
– yesterday we had a hiccup with Adams cycle
– took us all day to narrow down the problem
– was an electrical issue, once we found it, took 2 mins to fix
– both changed oil in auto zone parking lot
– still on schedule to hit Denver sat
– gonna come up from south west, and ride through Rockies, then down into denver
– saw “big brutis”, largest steam coal digger in USA
